Hepatic Hydatid disease

Location: Right > Left, both (20%)

Size: Average 5cm

The patient may present with recurrent jaundice and pain due to obstruction of the biliary tree

Eosinophilia in 20 to 50%


Radiograph

Curvilinear / crescentic calcification due to pericyst calcification


Ultrasound

Usually, an anechoic cyst

Snowstorm” sign = Due to echogenic debris settling within the cyst

Honeycomb appearance due to the septae between the daughter cyst

Spokewheel appearance of daughter cysts within the main cyst

Floating membrane due to detachment of the membrane


CT

Well-circumscribed hypoattenuating lesion with areas of calcification

Can have smaller hypoattenuating lesions (daughter cysts) in a spoke wheel configuration

Daughter cysts are often more hypoattenuating than mother cyst

Linear hyperdense septae<...
